Layers of bark, woodland fungi, dark soil, and small green leaves form a world shaped slowly by nature. What might appear to be an ending becomes the beginning of something new. The idea for this painting began with a photograph Anna took during one of her adventures while travelling through different places and countries. Her attention was drawn to a fragment of the forest that could easily have been passed by: an aging tree, irregular textures, and living forms continuing to grow across its surface. What the Forest Keeps is a reflection on natural transformation, the memory held within materials, and the quiet life that never disappears but simply changes its form.
