Privacy Policy
Sunset Space is a small shop in Ottawa. This page says what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to make us delete it. It describes what this website actually does, not what a template says a website might do.
Who we are

What we collect when you buy something
Your name, your email address, the address we are shipping to, and a phone number if you give one. We need those to take the order, send it, and tell you where it is.
We never see your card. Payment is handled by Stripe, which takes the card details directly on its own pages. What comes back to us is whether the payment worked, and the last four digits so you can recognise the order.
What we collect if you make an account
An email address and a password. The password is held by Clerk, our sign-in provider, and we never see it. You can also save a preferred language, delivery addresses, and which emails you want from us.
What we collect when you are only looking
Counts, and nothing that identifies you. We record that a page was opened, roughly how long it stayed open, and when something was put in a cart or taken back out.
Those are totals for the shop as a whole. There is no cookie, no session id, no device fingerprint and no IP address attached to any of them — so we cannot tell one visitor from another, and could not build a profile of you even if we wanted to. It also means we cannot tell you which pages you personally looked at, because we genuinely do not know.
There are no advertising cookies and no advertising network on this site.
Who else sees it
Only companies that do a specific job for us, and only the part they need:
Stripe takes payments. Clerk holds sign-in details. Resend sends our email. Cloudinary stores the photographs. FedEx is given a delivery address to quote and print a label. Google translates the shop's own descriptions between English, French and Ukrainian. Vercel runs the website and Neon stores the database.
Some of these companies keep data outside Canada, mostly in the United States. Each handles it on our instructions and none of them may use it for their own purposes. We do not sell your information, and we never have.
Marketing email
We only send marketing email to people who asked for it. When you sign up we send one message asking you to confirm, and until you click the link in it you receive nothing else.
Every marketing email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately, and our postal address at the bottom, as Canadian law requires. Order confirmations, shipping notices and event tickets are not marketing and are sent whether or not you subscribe.
Where artificial intelligence comes into it
We use OpenAI for two things: helping us read our own sales figures, and drafting replies to public reviews before a person edits and posts them.
What is sent is totals about the shop — how many of a thing sold, what it earned, which products moved. It never includes your name, email address, telephone number or postal address. That is not a promise about how careful we are; the software checks the data before it leaves and refuses to send anything that looks like a contact detail.
How long we keep it
Order records for at least seven years, because tax law requires us to keep them that long. Account details for as long as you keep the account. Your newsletter subscription until you unsubscribe. The anonymous counters indefinitely, since they identify nobody.
Your rights, and how to use them
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Write to info@sunsetspace.ca and we will answer within 30 days.
Deleting removes your account and your personal details. We have to keep the bare financial record of a completed order for tax purposes, and your name and address are removed from what remains.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle a request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec if you live in Quebec.
Children
This shop is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.
If this page changes
The date at the top changes with it. If a change materially affects you and we have your email address, we will tell you by email rather than expecting you to come back and check.
